Technique Overview
DISCLAIMER: Dr. Nave and past Student Leaders made these videos to help rookies learn the playing and marching technique we use here at Purdue. These videos are simply a brief overview to help our new candidates adjust to how we march and play. This is not a thorough guide for current/veteran members, nor do we expect any rookies to show up to Tech Weekend/Band Camp knowing this technique. This guide is simply meant to help new auditionees get a head start if they so wish! Lastly, these technique videos are not the end-all-be-all. Dr. Nave may change the technique at any time, even for individual songs or sections of music. What you learn at Tech Weekend/Band Camp trumps the content of these videos -- this page is just a resource!

Marching Technique
The entire Purdue Drumline marches using a low roll step, as shown below.
Snares, basses, and tenors NEVER use the high chair techniques that the rest of the band uses due to drums being in the way.
Snares, basses, and tenors NEVER use the high chair techniques that the rest of the band uses due to drums being in the way.
Cymbals are able to utilize both the low and high chair marching techniques. Our cymbal line prides themselves in being some of the best marchers in the band, often setting examples of proper marching technique for the rest of the band.
